What did I do this week?
This first week started off with choosing audio. The audio I chose was from a song online I found in an animatic. However, this song is not tied to the animatic it is just a stand alone audio released by a person called Zach Callison. The reason I decided on my own audio is because of an exercise I had done in class. In this exercise I drew up sketches for the pre-given audios to create initial ideas. However, these sketches were too simple and gave no inspiring plot lines that I wanted to continue with. Since I would be doing this animation myself I wanted to do an audio that I was passionate with animating lots of frames for.
After choosing my audio I drew up many characters that could inspire a storyline. With the part of the audio I chose (0:24-0:36 of actual lip sync) there are two people arguing, one sounding very angry and the other being more judgmental and stern. I decided because these people are fighting and are very much opposites in this situation that the theme of ‘Duality’ would fit my audio quite well.
“an instance of opposition or contrast between two concepts or two aspects of something; a dualism” – Description of duality by Oxford. This fits my opposing characters and helped when designing them too. Sketches included opposites of a women and a man since there is a female and male voice in my audio.
What did I achieve by the end of this week?
I chose my audio got it approved by my tutors, then I sketched out responses to my audio and preset audios as well. I created mood-boards with colour palettes, atmospheres and background ideas to each mood-board. I used these mood-boards to create storyline ideas and influence character ideas as well.
Overall critique on my work output this week
I kept up to date with each part of this starting process, doing four mood-boards to get a wide range to start off with so I have many options to choose from. I sketched out many characters for my own audio and was ready for what I was meant to do next in this animation pipeline.
